As a homeowner, it can be hard to decide which companies to work with but at our very first meeting Jim’s professionalism along with his clear knowledge and expertise made our deck staining decision easier. You get consistent communication and all weather contingencies are accounted for. We never had to wonder if or when they were coming based on weather because Jim was consistently communicating. They show up on time and are courteous and respectful. They know exactly the highest quality products to use and apply them BY HAND!! These are not kids with spray gun applicators. “In some areas my deck had too many prior coats of deck stain. In other areas it needed to be restained. Although it was not yet peeling, it did not make sense to add another coat of stain. I tried stripping it myself but after two applications and power washing there was still considerable stain to be removed. Deck De-Fence applied a PH balancer to neutralize the effect of the stripper I used. They then hand-sanded with palm sanders and when done the deck looked almost new. They then hand-brushed in the stain.
The work was done by Jim, the owner, and one co-worker. They were extremely professional, showed up on time, worked diligently throughout the day, and paid attention to detail. Jim also answered all my questions and explained in detail what he was going to do and why.
I would absolutely use Deck De-Fence again.”

“Folks, this is one of those rare businesses where you feel great about the money you spent. We moved into a new-to-us home, and the deck was looking tired. On top of that, it had been covered in a solid stain and I wanted to bring back the natural wood grain if possible. I had one contractor come by, and they refused to quote the job, as it would be too large for their crew. The next contractor that came gave me a quote, but it was clear he didn’t want to sand and strip the deck, rather preferring to just wash it and put a fresh coat on. I didn’t get a good feeling about the attention to detail they would provide. Then Jim from Deck De-fence came out. He’s the owner. He’s the estimator. He’s the lead worker. He explained all of my options and was very honest about the pros and cons to each. He didn’t try to sell me the easy solution, but he didn’t push the most expensive either. His communication via phone and email was impeccable. He arrived at the times he said he would arrive. If the weather was bad, I got an email or text letting me know it wasn’t a good day to work on the deck, and he let me know when he expected to return. Once the contract was signed, nothing changed. His crew of two (he and one other gentleman) came daily. They arrived early and worked late. It was a two week job and he was on site for the full shift each and every day. Jim obviously takes a ton of pride in his craftsmanship. The work itself was tedious and back breaking. No detail was sacrificed. Each board needed sanded. He worked in between the boards with hand tools. Screws and nails needed sunk. He prepped and stained all visible surfaces, and the undersides, and hidden nooks and corners that nobody will ever see! When you care for the areas nobody sees, you are a class act. We are absolutely thrilled with our major deck rehab and restoration and I consider it the pride of our home.”
